In a power system like the car engine, there is a transmission system that offers controlled application of power. The transmission is a whole drivetrain, including drive shafts, clutch, prop shaft, gearbox, and differentials.
Types of Transmissions
Automatic Transmission
It is common in most recent vehicles, and it uses a torque converter to transfer the engine's energy. At the same time, gearshifts, on the other hand, are controlled by the vehicle's technology.
Manual Transmission
It is recognized as the oldest and simplest transmission nowadays. The driver's foot modulates a friction clutch in this transmission. By doing that, the engine's energy gets connected to the transmission's input shaft.
Semi-automatic and Dual Clutch Transmission
Semi-autonomous uses a configuration of actuators and pneumatics to switch gears, whereas the dual-clutch uses the paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel.
Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)
CVT is like automatic transmission but works on a different mechanism. Instead of using gears, the system uses pulleys and belts to generate an infinite range of ratios.
